Visual Studio 2015&2013 Community Installation Stuck RRS feed

  • Question

  •  I recently tried downloading Visual Studio 2015 Community on my laptop(Windows7Ultimate) and while installing, the loading bar stopped at about 1/4 way. And so I just thought I'd have to wait a while so I left to load and came back 5 hours later and it was still their loading at the same spot. So I uninstalled and tried again but go the same result so I tried Visual Studio 2013 Community and when I did it I got stuck in the same exact spot again. What should I do to maybe fix this? (I receive no error messages when installing)
(Also if it makes a difference I have Malware-bytes and Avast installed)

  • Hi Dw4405,

Do you have AVG Free antivirus... The current version of AVG Free antivirus is incompatible with Microsoft Visual Studio 2015. So in case that you have installed it.. try to disable it and go back for installation of Visual Studio.

Other problem can be if you have pending update ... Check if your windows has pending updates. After restart Installation will be with no problems.

    Best regards!

  • Hi Dw4405:

Thank you for posting in MSDN forum.

How did you install VS 2015 community? Web installer or iso file?

To eliminate internet variables, I suggest that you download the ISO, verify the SHA-1 to ensure the ISO is not corrupt, then install locally.

The VS 2015 CE ISO is here: https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=615448&clcid=0x409
    Read here: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/e2h7fzkw(v=vs.140).aspx#bkmk_offline

To make sure whether your package is corrupted or not,

please use FCIV.exe http://support.microsoft.com/kb/841290  to verify hash of the ISO.

Any discrepancy would indicate that the file was corrupted. Here is a blog for how to use it, you can refer to it.

In order to narrow down the problems of VS setup, there are some tips about installing VS:

    1. Disable anti-virus or anti-spyware software.
    2. Check windows update.
    3. Clear %TEMP% folder.
    4. Run the installer as administrator.
