why bing location api retruns “estimatedTotal”:1? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am trying to get bing location data through url in json format. I want to provide type/category, latitude, longitude and radius in the rest url and want to get results to compare with the other places api. This is not commercial project. This is a research type work to compare the results get returns by different places api.

    http://dev.virtualearth.net/REST/v1/Locations/40.708322,-74.008881?o=json&key=mykey

I used the below url, but it only returns one result I want to get maximum available results possible and pass parameter like category, radius with the url.

Please let me know if it is possible in bing rest location, if possible then kindly how to do it.

I am eagerly waiting for your reply.

  • The Reverse Geocoder only returns one result. It finds the closest possible location to the coordinates. If you want to get more addresses around a point then you will need to do multiple searchs and do something like this: http://rbrundritt.wordpress.com/2010/01/09/reverse-geocoding-over-a-search-area/

  • There is no single REST call that can do that. The blog post I linked to calculates a number of data points within an area and reverse geocodes all of them and merges the results in to single list. It requires a bit of development and that post is the simplest I can make it.

  • Thanks Richard, for your reply. Actually I am not a good programmer. I found it difficult to understand the source code you have given. Can you please provide the rest url which can return near by results according to latitude, longitude, radius and category.

    Thanks,

    Cool
