Issue in accessing the Clustered sql analysis services. RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi all,

Can you please advise why I can only access the SQL server 2008 r2 clustered named instance from one node only (Node 2 of the cluster) ; It should be accessible from any other machine in the farm that has SQL Server Management studio.

Note: I am accessing Node 1 with a sql admin account and I can’t access any named instance (we have two instances on our two-node active\passive sql cluster)

    Hi Ahmad,

Suppose Node2 is the active server in the Cluster, only accessing clustered SQL on Node2 server is local SQL access, other clients including Node1 are remote accesses. Once Node1 is failoverred to active server, Node1 access is local and other clients including Node2 are remote accesses. You need to enable SQL Server Brower and configure firewall for SQL remote access.

To start SQL Server Browser service, open SQL Server Configuration Manager, click SQL Server Services, in the details pane, right click SQL Server Browser, and then click Start.

To configure windows fireware, see "Configure Windows Firewall access for a named instance of Analysis Services" section of  http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms174937.aspx .

    Jerry

  • It depends on what you mean be "access from".

Are you trying to run the client tools on the node and connect to <cluster name>\<instance name>?

Or are you trying to connect to Node1\<instance name>

So does than mean you are trying to run the client tools on Node 1 to connect to the cluster? That does not seem like something that you should normally do anyway.

Can you connect from other client machines on your network?
