is small basic discontinued? updates RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • Hi

I have decided to start this thread as small basic seems like it has been given up on. No updates since 2008, .Net 3.5 etc. . has it been given up on?, if so would you be able to release the source so someone else can continue it? Microsoft have done it with xna, so why can't they do it with SB?

  • It is still active with MS.  There is no specific timetable for updates, but I do believe that one is currently under development.

The list of MS and non MS people working to promote SB is Small Basic Community Council.  This includes MS employees, with Ed Price enthusiastically driving it from MS.

If there are specific bugs or issues to be fixed then this is where to log them, Known Issues about Microsoft Small Basic v1.0.

  • I thought it was discontinued. As your are on the cc for it please may you have it updated to .net 4 or later.

  • It is not discontinued - the history is:

    • It was created by one person in their spare time at MS (Vijaye Raji).
    • He left MS
    • Small Basic continued to flourish with user community (no updates)
    • Ed Price became involved (MS employee)
    • Currently I believe developments are ongoing (bug fixes, maybe other developments using newer .Net etc)
    • There are no firm commitments or details but it is still active at MS
