SQL SErver 2008 Management Studio connection RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am trying to connect remote SQL Server 2008 from sql server management studio (2008) . I am able to connect by windows id but through sql login it is denied. 18456 error. 'Password did not match 'error keep coming.  The management studio and remote server are in citrix environment and same domain. I am able to do all activities using sql login on the Locally on DB Server,From the query analyser, i am able to run any transaction using "Execute as" with sql login. Only authentication part, it is recognizing the sql password.

  • Only blank password works for this. But this is always risk and not suitable on application point of view. I tried to capture trace what is happening while authentication is being done. but could not able to get what password is being supplied while establishing connection with SQL Login.

  • For troubleshooting open a case with Microsoft CSS. Something is wrong with SSMS or some other component which is sending wrong password to server.
Is there any network packet sniffer installed?

  • has this issues been solved, we are also facing the same problem on sql server 2008 r2

  • Worked with pokiri1212 and it was identified that password sent by SSMS was always blank. This was because SSMS was unable to encrypt the password.

    ssrajan,
Please go to start > Run and type %appdata%. Is it opening?
