Building an app to password protect other metro apps

    Question

  • Hi, I want to know if it is possible to build an app which can password protect other metro apps such as photos, Skype, store etc. In short, I want something like this ( play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.domobile.applock ) for windows 8 metro apps. If it is not possible to do so then can anyone please explain why? Thanks.

  • no.. its not possible. apps are sandboxed and dont know from eachother. App only can active other apps through protocol or file activation. There are no api's availalbe to lockdown other apps

Because the other apps belong to the user, and your app isn't allowed to interfere with them.

Also on a Windows device you don't need to lock down individual applications to protect your data.  All a users data is stored under a user's profile, and another user on the device would not have any access to it.
