Removing SMTP from Server 2008 R2 RRS feed

  • Question

  • After days of attempts at removing SMTP from my new exchange server box running 2008 R2 I am at a loss. Whenever i attempt to install Exchange 2010 the pre-check throws the error that SMTP must be uninstalled. There is no option under programs and features to remove it so I have used the Power shell commands to remove the SMTP server, in fact under the power shell, SMTP is no longer "checked" as if it is uninstalled. But under services, the SMTP server is still present. And Exchange pre-deployment check still says SMTP needs to be removed. (Have restarted the server various times)

Any thoughts as to how to uninstall SMTP?
