Using a SQL Azure data connection on SQL2017 Express Reporting services, it it possible? RRS feed

  • Question

  • In our SQL Azure test environment we are trying to make a connection to a SQL Azure database from a SSRS 2017 Express edition data source.
We have a SQL Azure database we can connect to through the management studio.
We can also use report builder to retrieve data from the SQL azure database.
However when we upload the report to the SSRS environment, we get a message "
An error has occurred during report processing. (rsProcessingAborted)
An attempt has been made to use a data extension 'SQLAZURE' that is either not registered for this report server or is not supported in this edition of Reporting Services. (rsDataExtensionNotFound)

    "

If we manually try to create a datasource in the SSRS web interface, we get a similar error when we press the "Test Connection" button.

We tried finding online if it was possible to use this in the SSRS 2017 Express edition, but could not find any information about this. Does anybody know where this can be found?

  • Hi Ferry Laurentiu

According to the official document , seems the expresss edition ssrs could not support the remote data source and the non-sql data source .

Check the detailed information at : SQL Server Reporting Services features supported by its editions (find “Remote and non-SQL data source support)

    Hope it can help you.

  • Hi Eric,
That was indeed a page we did not come by from the supported data sources. We are installing the standard edition now to see if we can make it work now.

    regards,

    Ferry
