What is the col parameter used for in HID of registry RRS feed

  • Question

  • Dear experts,

    I use one touch screen and a no touch screen in one pc. I get the instance path like

    hid#vid_xx&pid_xx&col01#8&1c68079d&0&0000#{4d1e55b2-f16f-11cf-88cb-001111000030}

    hid#vid_xx&pid_xx&col02#8&1c68079d&0&0001#{4d1e55b2-f16f-11cf-88cb-001111000030}

      hid#vid_xx&pid_xx&col03#8&1c68079d&0&0002#{4d1e55b2-f16f-11cf-88cb-001111000030}

      hid#vid_xx&pid_xx&col04#8&1c68079d&0&0003#{4d1e55b2-f16f-11cf-88cb-001111000030}

      hid#vid_xx&pid_xx&col05#8&1c68079d&0&0004#{4d1e55b2-f16f-11cf-88cb-001111000030}

    What is the col01 - col05 parameter mean?

    What's more, the below is what i found in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Wisp\Pen\Digimon

    20-\\?\hid#vid_xx&pid_xx&col01#8&1c68079d&0&0000#{4d1e55b2-f16f-11cf-88cb-001111000030}
    \\?\DISPLAY#xx#4&386461f0&0&UID16843008#{e6f07b5f-ee97-4a90-b076-33f57bf4eaa7}

    30-\\?\hid#vid_xx&pid_xx&col04#8&1c68079d&0&0003#{4d1e55b2-f16f-11cf-88cb-00111100003 0}

    \\?\DISPLAY#xx#4&386461f0&0&UID50725632#{e6f07b5f-ee97-4a90-b076-33f57bf4eaa7}

    What's the 20 and 30 mean?

    Thanks for any answer

  • col isn't a parameter, it is a part of the string. it is used if the HID has multiple top level collections and indicates the collection number. You are not supposed to parse the interface string, treat it as opaque. The values under they Digimon key are private to that binary, their format is not documented nor should you take a dependency on them.

  • Thanks for your replay. It saved me a lot of time. ^_^

    As the touch device will point to no touch screen some times, is it means that i can't fix the problem by myself in embedded version?
