Coercion error on any field RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am running into Coercion transform errors and have had no luck solving it.

I have created a simple workflow that (if working) will update the current item with information location in other items from the same list creating a bit of a parent/child relationship.  The current item contains the ID of the item that it wants to copy data from (field name: Merged ID).  The intent is to trigger this workflow from another (but I'm not there yet).

The workflow uses a string variable and assigns it a value e.g.

    Set strCategory to Current Item:Category

    Pointless but works...

    Set strCategory to Current List:Category

    Does not

The filter is on ID = Merged ID

I can't imagine why if I set a variable to a value from a field within the current item it works but if I set it to the same field from different item from the same list I get SP's version of a data mismatch error

BTW: If I just Log the value without assigning it to a variable I get the same error, so it's not about the data type of the variable.
