Application Error RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

    With Excel, I use a "content app" to display svg files. If the svg is (too?) big, I get an "application error (red circle, white cross).
    Is there a way to avoid this?
    How do I get information about the error happens?

    Denis

  • Would you please share some screenshot or code snippet to reproduce this issue?

    By the way, what's the meaning of "too big"? How big svg files would cause this issue?

  • hi,

    Thanks for reply

    Code is very simple, I use d3 for loading the svg and for  interactivity :

    <!doctype html>
    <html>
    <head>

        <meta charset="utf-8">
        <script type="text/javascript" src="</script">http://ajax.aspnetcdn.com/ajax/jQuery/jquery-2.0.2.min.js"></script
        <script type="text/javascript" src="</script">https://appsforoffice.microsoft.com/lib/1.0/hosted/office.js"></script>
        <script type="text/javascript" src="</script">http://d3js.org/d3.v3.min.js"></script>

    <script type="text/javascript">
    (function () {
        "use strict";
        Office.initialize = function (reason) {
            $(document).ready(function () {
                d3.xml("china.svg", "image/svg+xml", function(xml) {
                    document.body.appendChild(xml.documentElement).setAttribute( "id", "panelSvg" );
                    d3.selectAll("#panelSvg").call(d3.behavior.zoom().on("zoom", function() {
                        d3.select("#viewport").attr("transform", "translate(" + d3.event.translate + ")" + " scale(" + d3.event.scale + ")");
                     } ));
               });

            });
       };
    })();

    /script>
    </head>
    <body>
    </body>
    </html>

    svg file is http://88.191.145.26/china.svg about 5Mo

    Same code is running without problem with ie.

    Best regards

  • >>Same code is running without problem with ie.<<

    Refer to this link:

    http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/support/supported-browsers-in-office-2013-and-office-365-HA102789344.aspx

    You should check whether current browser can run Office apps.

  • OK.

    Excel content app is hosting in IE. If the code works fine in IE, it also should work fine in Excel content app. It is strange.

    Could you please translate the error message to English and copy it here?

    This is an English forum.

    In addition, when you run this app, you can see whether there is an IE process to host this app by task manager.

  • Hi,

    That's why I'm so disapointed....

    The ERROR Message (sorry to have posted it in french ):

    APPLICATION ERROR

    This application cannot be started, close this dialog box to pass over or (Click) on Restart to retry.

    ***************************************

    The error appends after some manipulations, the UI is still active (I can zoom, scroll...).

    If i click the "Restart" button, the page reloads and the error reappends after fiew minutes and manips.

    If I close the Error dialog box, a triangle with a red circle and a white cross remains (error flag).

    ***************************************

    Effectively, I can see the IE process in the task manager

    ***************************************

    Étonnant non ?!  :)

    Regards

  • I'm not sure whether the translated error message is correct.

    I cannot find anything related to such message by google or bing.

    So, I just guess Excel content app will limit browser cache.

    Try to follow this link to manage web apps cache:

    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee837422(v=office.14).aspx

    If it cannot help you, Maybe you should give Microsoft a feedback.

    Refer to this link:
