SQL Server 2008 Express Uninstall

Question
-
Hello all,
I installed SQL Server 2008 Express as part of an ASP.Net and Visual Web Developer setup installed through a Web Platform Installer (WPI) on the MSDN website. However, the complete SQL server 2008 Express was not installed properly. I attempted an add on from the MSDN web site but that did not work either. It appears that many others had this problem. I have now attempted to uninstall the SQL Server 2008 Express from my PC (running Windows XP Professional) using Add\Remove programs, but I have had numerous problems, including components that will not uninstall and error messages are shown.
Help please.
Thanks in advance
Regards
Alan Farroll

Hi Alan,
Could you please firstly check and post the SQL Server setup log file ‘%ProgramFiles%\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Setup Bootstrap\LOG\Summary.txt’ to identify which part of installation failed ? Please attached any error message in the Summary.txt you found .There is the Book Online Document about how to view SQL 2008 setup log .For general solution about SQL Server 2008 installation issue, please refer to this KB .
And if you want a clean uninstallation, you should follow this online document 'How to uninstall an instance of SQL Server 2008'.Hope this helps.

Looks like some files may not have been removed, you can attempt to perform a clean uninstall

If that MS support article does not help, look in the following thread (amd answer from Jeff Baker - MSFT)

Hi Alanjo,
Can you please post the Setup error logs (C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Setup Bootstrap\Log), so that we can help you in fixing the issue in Installation ?
