ServiceFabric Actor trigger bound to ServiceBus RRS feed

  • Question

  • Some of my team mates are exploring the use of Azure Functions for some parts of our system.  These seem very simiar to ServiceFabric Actors.  The reason they seem to be favoring Azure Functions seems to be the ability to configure a function to be triggered based on the presence of messages in a ServiceBus queue or subscription.  I've spent some time looking for if/how this would be accomplished with ServiceFabric Actors, and it seems we would have to write something like a Stateless Service Fabric Service that would handle monitoring ServiceBus queues/subscriptions for messages, and calling the appropriate actor.

Are there plans to create out-of-the-box bindings for triggering Actors, similar to the bindings that exist for Azure Functions?

  • This has already been built by the community: https://github.com/loekd/ServiceFabric.PubSubActors

Also the Actor programming model is now open source: https://github.com/Azure/service-fabric so feel free to raise issues and ask questions about SDK support there or on our other GitHub issues list https://github.com/azure/service-fabric-issues. If there's enough requests for that feature then such listeners might get added, but there are no plans for this type of bindings that I'm aware of at this time.
