So my group has been working on importing a 3-D model of our robot into MRDS.
We successfully imported the robot using Blender, exporting as a .obj file.
Now, we have acquired SolidWorks with the Collada add-on to maintain joint propreties and everything else. However, when we export as a .dae file and try to open it in MRDS, we get a "File format not supported" error.
I checked on the Collada site and it appears that we are using everything we need for compatibility. Our Robotics Studio Developer is not the express version and it is the most recent version.
Is importing a .dae file the same as the .obj? Is it as simple as replacing the filename.obj in our coding with filename.dae? Or is there something that we are missing and need to do different.
Hi, the process is different for dae files since they contain the entire scene. You can open a dae file by selecting "File" -> "Open Scene..." and selecting the dae file to open. You can also list the dae file in the manifest (see the TiltHammer / Collada sample for details).
