External database connection to MS WMP 12 with Media Foundation and Direct Show. RRS feed

  • Is it possible to connect with an external databases with the use of the Microsoft Windows Media Foundation and or Direct Show for the Windows Media Player? I will be serving up the data with Windows Media Server 2008.

  • If I understand what you are asking here, you have a Windows Media Server with available streams, and you want to make those streams show up in the WMP library.  I do not know of a way to push data into the WMP database or make WMP access an external database.  WMP can add network shares to the library, however.  You could potentially create a share with a set of ASX files that point to network streams, and if added to the WMP library they would show up as playlists.

    Content shared out using DLNA through the WMP network sharing service will show up in WMP much like local content.  Windows Media Server does not use DLNA, though.
