Calendar View - Event width RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi!

We are currently migrating from a SharePoint 2007 environment to 2010. The following problem occured:

We are using a simple calendar to manage our businesses car pool in our current SharePoint 2007 environment. The department using the calendar uses the week view, to see which vehicles are reserved today and the next 2-3 days. In some cases, we had 10+ reservations on a single day and these were all displayed next to each other, because the respective day has been stretched in the week view.

However, in SharePoint 2010, it seems that the view has a fixed width, which is similar to the window size. As a result, the single events have a width of 5 pixels so they aren’t readable anymore.

    Does anyone know the solution?

    Best regards

  • Hi,

Sharepoint 2010 use ajax to load events items and show them using new DIVs but input them into the table which is the calendar view layout. in other word, the date/week/month layout and events items are at different DIVs. so it will be difficulty to do step backwards since you need to do big changes.

Maybe you can create your own view for calendar list and don't use ajax techniques.

  • Hi,

This is by designed for calendar view.

For your need, in my opinion, you can use all events view and group the events through start date columns.

  • Hi,

    thanks for the reply.

It is not really a solution. We need the calandar view. We can not group through start date column, because for excample one car is reserved from 8am till 12am not for a whole day. In  calendar view it is easy to see which car is free.

As described, it works in SharePoint 2007, so this is a step backwards.

  • Hi,

i think many sharePoint users are affected with this issue.

Most are using SharePoint calendar to manage several events on one day (collaboration). For example to manage a team or a project.

Therefore SharPoint should be able to show these events properly.

It is hard to tell our users that something working in SharePoint 2007 is not going to work in SharePoint 2010 and they have to wait until we create our own view for calendars.

  • Hi,

no there is not really a solution. We have used jquery to change the width of the calender but the whole SharePoint Calender was not good enough to manage our car pool.

We have plans to develop our own "Gantt-View" for SharePoint 2013 to solve these issues.
