Can't go back to the Windows 7 start menu by changing RPEnabled =0 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I installed Windows 8 on my laptop, and I tried to use Windows 7 UI (start menu) via changing a registry key. After changing from RPEnabled =1 to 0, and restarting my laptop, it is not working.

    Repro steps:

    1. install Windows 8 32 bits on my laptop ( I don't see any windows live ID information ; I see it in another machine if I am on the company domain)

    2. Use work group

    3. changing the registry key from RPEnabled =1 to 0

    4 restarting the laptop

    5. The Start Menu is the same.

In this case, how can I switch back to Windows 7 Start Menu?

  • set the option back to 1 and rename the file C:\Windows\System32\shsxs.dll to C:\Windows\System32\shsxs.dll.bak and reboot.
