Speech recognition in WinRT RRS feed

  • Question

  • In the sdk 2.0 Public Preview, there is a speech recognition sample for WPF. Should we expect speech recognition support for WinRT?

  • WinRT does not have speech API's in the platform. The speech platform being used for desktop, is not available for store applications. You would have to discuss that with the Windows or Speech team to see if there is anything else they can provide.

There are available Bing Speech services and Speech Recognition Control which you can use in your application. Keep in mind the functionality is limited to Voice command through the control itself which requires push to talk.

If there are other speech libraries available for store apps, you can use the microphone with them by selecting it as the default microphone for the system in the control panel.

  • Carmine, do they have any plans to bring Speech Recognition to WinRT in near future? because I was planning to make Universal App and use Audio Commands and IR feeds at same time?

So please confirm if that is not possible, other wise I can do some workaround and get the Audio Source from Kinnect V2 into the WinRT app

  • You would have to ask that of the speech team. This is not a fundamental feature of the Kinect api's. We have no knowledge of what plans are for Windows Store apps.

The Audio Source and beam forming frames are already available from our Windows Store api's. Samples are available in the later builds. If you are not part of DPP, you can request access by emailing Keep in mind, the audio api's from Kinect only provide audio data, not speech recognition.
