Hello, World Tutorial RRS feed

  • Question

  • I just want to make sure I'm not missing something here in regards to the functionality that is available in Windows 8/8.1 with regards to doing the tutorials in VS Express 2012.

I am working through the Hello, World tutorial for C++/XAML. (Unable to link due to verification)

At the portion where it begins to modify the style of the text.  It tells you to go to miscellaneous properties and click the style options button.  The tutorial shows a picture where Local Resource is greyed out and System Resource is the menu that should be navigated to.  However, on my machine (Windows 8 Pro x64 / VS Express 2012), I have System Resource greyed out and Local Resource is the only menu I can navigate to.

Is anyone familiar with the availability of these resources being affected by anything in particular?

  • Do you mean this one? http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/apps/hh986965.aspx

If so it is specific to Windows 8.1 apps and won't work as is on Windows 8. The way resources are handled is one of the differences you will run into.

Important  This tutorial is intended for use with  Microsoft Visual Studio 2013 RC and  Windows 8.1 Preview.  Parts of it will not work correctly with Microsoft Visual Studio 2012 and Windows 8.
