App trial over, infinte loop with store

    Question

  • So I have noticed an absolute horrible user experience regarding trial apps in the Windows Store.

    After a trial ends a popup message shows up directing the user to the store. If the user clicks the link to go to the store, the store opens, and then immediately directs the user back to the app which then shows the same popup message.

    The only way to get around it is to uninstall the app and then go into the store. What user is going to do that? I'm really shocked that this user flow even happens. Can someone at Microsoft chime in and explain the thinking?

    A app trial experience is customized by developer.

    If the trial expires while your app is running, your app can:

    • Do nothing.
    • Display a message to your customer.
    • Close.
    • Prompt your customer to buy the app.

    The best practice is to display a message with a  prompt for buying the app,  and if the customer buys it, continue  with all features enabled. If the user decides not to buy the app, close it or remind them to buy the app at regular intervals.
