  • Does an application downloading files from the internet to the program files folder in Windows vista needs to be run with administrator privileges?

  • I saw this article in code project http://www.codeproject.com/useritems/Certified_for_Vista.asp and their app downloads files from the internet as updates and they elevated their app to run with administrator privliges. So I would like from you to take a look at it and let me know what do you think.

  • That elevates because it replaces a file in Program Files, which is a privileged operation, it has nothing to do with it downloading files.

     

    EDIT: Sorry, I misread your question. Updating Program Files requires elevation unless you use MSI patches.
