Custom view - notifying Explorer of selection change / showing info in Details Pane. RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a namespace extension implemented using a custom view. How do I
notify Windows Explorer of selection changes? When browsed in a file
dialog, I can use the ICommDlgBrowser.OnStateChange method. What is
    the equivalent for Windows Explorer?

Further, how can I populate the "Details Pane" in Windows Explorer
when using a custom view? I feel that this issue is related to the
    above issue.

  • Your view window can allow its container (and others) to subscribe to shell folder view events (DShellFolderViewEvents). Your view window can notify subscribers when the selected item changes in the view window by firing a DISPID_SELECTIONCHANGED event.

That said, Windows Explorer currently only supports updating the details pane when selection changes in shell folders that use the default shell view (SHCreateShellFolderView[Ex]).
