Sql server 2005 installation fails in Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit

Question

I have installed Visual studio 2008 and then tried to install sql server 2005 i am getting in the installation process

Unable to start Sql server.

It shows me a message installation is incomplete and stops.

I bought new laptop with windows 7 ultimate, please direct me to avoid this error installation error?

What account did you specify SQL Server runs under during the installation? I hope  you are admin on that machine..

Hi Sivaraman,

 

Since the release date of SQL Server 2005 is earlier than the date of Windows 7 , there is some compatibility issue between SQL Server 2005 and Windows 7.

 

Thus we recommend that you patch SQL Server 2005 with SP3 after the installation of SQL Server 2005.

 

After the patch, if this issue still occurs, could you please provide us the error message in detail.

 

If anything is unclear, please let me know.
