Can an Azure container with a blob that has a snapshot be deleted? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I know that an Azure blob with snapshots cannot be deleted until all the snapshots are deleted. Would it be possible, though, to delete the container that houses the blob (and, by extension, that blob too)?

  • You can delete both the blob and its snapshot in the same operation by using the Delete Blob - more at https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/rest/api/storageservices/fileservices/delete-blob

  • This is untrue. You can easily delete a blob whether it has snapshots or not. The Delete Blob operation pointed out by Marcin does this.

You can also delete a container with one or more blobs in it, and it will delete the blobs as well.

The exception is if the blob has a lease on it, you can not delete it until the lease is removed.
