Windows 10 setuping VS2015/VS2013 crash RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hardware : Surface Pro 3

It looks like a system problem, and problems like VS, like Surface Pro3. My other Windows 10 10240 systems run on drive d, run the VS installation is no problem.

Drive C reseted the system or reinstalled the system, running VS installer still will crash.

  • Hi FyterLuo,

    Some clarifications with you:

Do you mean that installing VS2015RC/VS2013 stuck and crash on Windows 10 10166?

Or updating windows 10 to 10166 and then VS2015RC/VS2013 stuck and crash?

And the log information that you provided is not useful, we may need your entire log files,  please use  http://aka.ms/vscollect to gather the installation logs. After using it, you will find vslogs.cab from %temp% folder. Please upload the file to https://skydrive.live.com/ and share the link here.

    Best Regards,

  • Hi FyterLuo,

I couldn’t find any error in your visual studio installation log files.

And I opened the WindowsUpdate.log, I see the following information:

Windows Update logs are now generated using ETW (Event Tracing for Windows).

Please run the Get-WindowsUpdateLog PowerShell command to convert ETW traces into a readable WindowsUpdate.log.

For more information, please visit http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=518345

So could you go to this link to get the windows update log and provide the windowsupdate.log to us?

Besides, please go to Event Viewer to see whether there are related log information about your windows update and visual studio installation. You can input "eventvwr" in the Run to open the Event Viewer.

    Best Regards,

    Jiayi Li

  • Hi FyterLuo,

For this crash issue, I want to know that is it occur when installing the Visual Studio?

If it is, I suggest you take the following steps:

    1. Make sure that your windows has updated completely, and then try to reboot your system.

    2. We want to know whether your package is corrupted or healthy, so we could use FCIV.exe (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/841290?wa=wsignin1.0 ) to verify the ISO checksum. By using it, you will get the SHA-1 value of your visual studio, please compare it with the value on these pages:

    https://www.visualstudio.com/en-us/downloads/visual-studio-2013-iso-sha1-vs.aspx (Visual Studio 2013)

    https://www.visualstudio.com/en-us/downloads/visual-studio-2015-iso-sha1-vs.aspx (Visual Studio 2015)

If the SHA-1 value is incorrect, it means that your package is corrupted, please re-download and reinstall it.

If the above steps doesn’t help, since Windows 10 10166 is the beta version, we don’t know whether it is related to it. So I suggest you update your windows to the latest, and the latest version is 10240, refer to: http://microsoft-news.com/download-windows-10-rtm-build-10240-iso/

    Best Regards,

  • I've verified that SHA1 is correct. And yesterday updated Windows 10240. But I just tried it, the result is still the same, still crashes.
VS Setup logs the last line in the system temp folder display: [0858:0354][2015-07-17T18:09:46]i000:MUX:Detect Completed, now create view
    Normally it should be continued.
VS2015RC Community Edition, Professional Edition, VS2013 the ultimate version is the same.

  • I can't find any error message in the installation logs either. As VS2015 RTM is released, how about you choose to install it instead of the RC version? You can find it here: https://www.visualstudio.com/downloads/download-visual-studio-vs
