Adding service reference for https://api.datamarket.azure.com/Data.ashx/data.gov/Crimes in Visual C# returns error RRS feed

  • Question

  • I followed your MSDN instructions posted at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg312152.aspx but get the following error.  I did make sure to open VS as an admin and I do have internet connection.  I also tried adding a '/' char at the end of the URL string, but no luck.  I DO NOT get an error when accessing the azure URL via IE.  Is this a known issue?  Any workarounds?

Note, I got the same issue when trying different Azure URLs, like https://api.datamarket.azure.com/Data.ashx/UnitedNations/WHO

     Development Environment:

    - Windows 7 32 bit
    - Visual Studio 2008 launched as admin
    - C# console app

    Add Service Reference Error:

The document at the url https://api.datamarket.azure.com/Data.ashx/data.gov/Crimes was not recognized as a known document type.
The error message from each known type may help you fix the problem:
    - Report from 'DISCO Document' is 'Discovery document at the URL https://api.datamarket.azure.com/Data.ashx/data.gov/Crimes/ could not be found.'.
      - The document format is not recognized.
    - Report from 'WSDL Document' is 'There is an error in XML document (2, 2).'.
      - <service xmlns='http://www.w3.org/2007/app'> was not expected.
    - Report from 'XML Schema' is 'The root element of a W3C XML Schema should be <schema> and its namespace should be 'http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema'.'.
Metadata contains a reference that cannot be resolved: 'https://api.datamarket.azure.com/Data.ashx/data.gov/Crimes/'.
The remote server returned an unexpected response: (405) Method Not Allowed.
The remote server returned an error: (405) Method Not Allowed.
If the service is defined in the current solution, try building the solution and adding the service reference again.
