adding core to sql server 2014 enterprise edition with core-based licensing

    Question

  • hi, experts,

I dont know whether here is the correct place to ask. please tell me where to get assistance if I am wrong.

there is one sql server  2014 enterprise edition (12.0.4100.1)  NT x64 with core-based licensing installed inside one windows server 2012 R2 in one VM.

the processor listed in property on the database is 4.

as now hitting performance issue, after investigation, the team decided to add processor(s) to the sql server.

    I have questions:

    1) core based licensing is countering on no. of core or no. of (virtual) processors? the windows server is on VM.

by the way, how about the windows server licensing?

    2) as the colleagues who set up the windows server and sql server quit the company, is it possible for me to check the actual current license detail from the server?

    thank you very much!
