MVVM, Blend and Images

    Question

  • I am back at building another Windows Store App that uses images and hope that I am missing something. I am using MVVM and want my images referenced in my sample data to show in Blend at design time. I also want my run time experience to actually work and show images that the user has previously picked at runtime.

Binging around I am finding posts from 2007 on creating image converters, still 7 years later. Is this the ONLY way to create a design and runtime experience for MVVM? Hasn't the experience gotten any better? What am I missing?

The problem I am having is that I cannot do Async calls from an IConverter without a whole lot of additional plumbing. Can anyone provide some guidance here?

    Thanks in advance!

  • You can (and should) provide different data for runtime and design time. You would typically do this by replacing the data source rather than by replacing individual pieces of data. See Displaying data in the designer for a discussion of how to do so.
