How to use TileId when getting Birds Eye imagery RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am using this API to get BirdsEye Imagery Metadata:
    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/bingmaps/rest-services/imagery/get-imagery-metadata

    I get a URL like
http://ak.{subdomain}.tiles.virtualearth.net/tiles/be000122033113001-9-14-{zoom}-{tileId}.jpeg?g=5777&key={BingMapsAPIKey}I manage to download image with tileId 0,1,2.

    However if I get tilesX = 9 and tilesY = 14, I cannot get 9*14 =126 images with tileids = [0,1,2.....125].

Can you tell me how should tileId be produced, do you have a documentation on this and is this related to the location point of the first request ?

  • Hi Petar,

the docs definitely could be clearer on this. From the URL above, it looks like you didn't specify a zoom level in the initial request, which means you need to fill in the {zoom} placeholder with a value between the zoomMin and zoomMax values in the response. The tilesX and tilesY are given for the max zoom level, so you would only be able to get 126 images when using the highest possible zoom level. For each level below that, the image is downsampled by 2x in both X and Y, so there are only half as many tiles in both X and Y, so 4x fewer tiles overall.

Let us know if varying the zoom level works or doesn't work for you. If it doesn't please include the metadata request you're making and we'll take a look.

    Thanks,
