Are any there any plans to offer the full.Net 4.0 version via WSUS? RRS feed

  • Question

  •  From what I see, when you install the .4 client profile from WSUS its registers as 120MB in add/remove programs in Windows.  If you download and run dotNetFx40_Full_x86_x64.exe, it registers as 182MB.   The WSUS version is definitly incomplete because I've pushed this out to client machines via WSUS and they are having trouble using .net4 apps.  If they run the .exe manually on their machine, all is fine.   Is there any way to pull in the full version of .net4 into WSUS?  Thanks.

  • Hi systechfun,

    Thanks for your post.

Would you please let me know your Windows version?

The .NET Framework 4 Client Profile is a subset of the .NET Framework 4 that is optimized for client applications. It provides functionality for most client applications, including Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF), Windows Forms, Windows Communication Foundation (WCF), and ClickOnce features.

However, there are severl features does not include in the .NET Framework 4 Client Profile. You must install the .NET Framework 4 to use these features in your application:

    • ASP.NET
    • Advanced Windows Communication Foundation (WCF) functionality
    • .NET Framework Data Provider for Oracle
    • MSBuild for compiling

For more information about the .NET Framework Client Profile, please see: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc656912.aspx

According to your description, I think the applications targeting .NET Framework 4.0 might uses some features above. In this case, you'll need to install the full version of .NET Framework 4.0 in order to run these applications. If you need to deploy the .NET Framework 4.0 across a network, please check: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee390831.aspx.

And as far as I know, .NET Framework 4 product is available on WSUS for both Client Profile and Full version.
On WSUS, the .NET Framework 4 is an optional update on Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2008, and on Windows Server 2008 R2. For more information about , please see: http://support.microsoft.com/KB/982671

Would you please check whether or not you have apply this update in your system? If so, there might be some issues with the WSUS. For the WSUS issue, you are more likely to get more efficient response in the WSUS Forum.

If you have any concerns, please feel free to let me know.
