XPERF -SetSpinLockSample RRS feed

  • Question

  • Can someone provide an example of how to use the -SetSpinLockSample feature of XPERF to instrument driver spinlocks on Win2008R2X64 ? Can this be used to measure spin lock hold times and lock contention ?

  • Hi,

no sure what you want to achieve :).

You can setup the xperf with the additional action entry for getting spinlock results.

if you want to get a result as runetime you can use the following command example:

    start trace "xperf -on diageasy+profile+spinlock"

    stop trace "xperf -d C:\Test\Spinlock.etl"

if you want to get a result from the system boot you can use this example:

    "xbootmgr -trace boot -traceflags base+cswitch+spinlock"

I "just" let run both examples on a W2k8 R2 datacenter server.

    Best regards
