Does Blob to blob copy using AZCopy uses local computer network

    Question

  • I am trying to do blob to blob copy using AZCopy.

I doubt if the speed depends on my local internet speed ? Does it actually downloads and uploads ?

If do it from my local machine it take 2.5 hours for 60 gb data and same if i run from any azure vm in the same data center then it takes less than hour.

What about powershell cmdlet for blob copy ?

    Thanks,

  • Hi,

Using AzCopy, when you copy a blob within a storage account or across storage accounts, a server-side copy operation is performed. For more information about server-side copy operations, see here: https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/documentation/articles/storage-use-azcopy/ so I don't why you have this problem.

In that page you can see how perform a server-side copy operation with Azure SDK.

Otherwise you can use following Azure cmdlet:

    Start-CopyAzureStorageBlob [-SrcBlob] <String> [-SrcContainer] <String> [-Context] <AzureStorageContext> -DestContainer <String> [-DestBlob <String>] [-Context <AzureStorageContext>] [-DestContext <AzureStorageContext>] [-Force] [<CommonParameters>]
