  • Question

  • I have a SQL Server 2008 Enterprise Edition R2 named instance that is not accepting SQL Server Authentification but will accept a Windows Authentification.  I've never run into this issue before, anybody know what could be causing this issue?

  • Perhaps the SQL Server was installed as Windows Authentication only. Here are instructions to enable SQL Server Authentication How to: Change Server Authentication Mode http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms188670.aspx. The Database Engine must be restarted after the change. And if you want to use the sa account (not recommended) it must be enabled.

  • Thank you so very much, makes sense and it worked.  I usually enable both but must have over looked it this time.
