  • Hi Nisa94,

vs_enterprise.exe would be related to your setup file(ISO file), not the setup path like C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 14.0\Common7\IDE.

    The detailed steps:

Download the setup application you used to originally install Visual Studio 2015. If you installed from media, please insert that media.
    2.Open a command prompt.
a.Click Run on the Start menu (Start + R).
b.Type cmd and press OK (Enter).
3.Type in the full path to the setup application and pass the following command line switches: /uninstall /force
      Example: D:\vs_xxx.exe /uninstall /force
4.Click the Uninstall button and follow the prompts.

    Best Regards,

    Jack

I would try a "force uninstall" using the distribution software for VS2015 Enterprise (or Community). e.g.

    vs_enterprise.exe /uninstall /force

  • Hi Nisa94,

To make sure that it is not the setup issue, like Brian's suggestion, maybe you could really clean up the VS, and then re-install it again.

    >>The application has failed to start beacuse its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log or use the command-line sxstrace.exe tool for more detail.

But like the error messages, maybe you could check that whether it is related to the Side by side configuration which is a trick for versioning files, you could check the event viewer and check for entry with sidebyside, or use the command line tool to really collect more useful information.

    Like this document here:

I think you could collect the detailed log information to troubleshoot this issue.

  • I have VS 2017 Community installed, but had a need to install VS 2015 Community. Installed from ISO. It did not work on start, don't remember the exact error. So i've followed the advice for this error and did /uninstall /force. Rebooted, cleaned the Registry etc. Reinstalled from ISO again.

Now when trying to run VS 2015 - it gives me the same error as topic starter reports: "side-by-side configuration is incorrect". Very funny.

P.S. Seems like it's a problem of missing VC redist package for VS 2015 (Event Log). I've downloaded one and try to install, but it fails, because a newer version is already installed (obviously from VS 2017). STUCK...
