  • Question

  • So im now migrating the project from win 7 4.0 vs 2010 into windows 10, vs 2015..

if i install .net 4.0 , 4.5 and 4.6 together will there be any issues?

can they coexist? or will there be any performance issues?

  • Hi Appsw,

Thank you for posting in MSDN forum.

.Net Framework 4.6 is pre-installed within Win 10. please refer to:.NET Framework System Requirements.

You don't need to install 4.6 separately, directly go to Control Panel\Programs\Programs and Features to enable V4.6 feature:

Once this is enabled, you couldn't install 4.0 and 4.5, because V4.6 is a highly compatible, in-place update to the Microsoft .NET Framework 4 and 4.5.

    >>can they coexist? or will there be any performance issues?

Please see Version Compatibility in the .NET Framework , The .NET Framework 4.5 and its point releases (4.5.1, 4.5.2, 4.6, 4.6.1, and 4.6.2) are backward-compatible with apps that were built with earlier versions of the .NET Framework, so commonly there isn't any performance issue after migrating project to another machine.

    >>Do we have any other disadvantages?

Please don't worry about it, If you find there is any class library in the v4.6 not compatibility with v4.0 and v4.5, you could re-debug and re-compile then.
