Page security for pages in root folder of sub-site RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have created some pages in the root folder of a sub-site using SP Designer. Is it possible to set custom permissions for these pages? If they were created within a Shared Documents folder, then they show up in the AllItems.aspx view and from there it's possible to select "manage permissions". However, there is no AllItems.aspx view for the root folder...

    How should it be done??

The best way I can think of is to copy them to a specified list. Thus they can be assigned permissions as list item. As you know, sharepoint can have the item granularity of permission, so you can assign permission to each page respectively. Otherwise, anyone who has permission of the site can access those pages.

In fact, it is easy to do such a copy or move operation in sharepoint designer. Or, you can download them first and upload them to some list. If the pages are too many, you can use SPList in object model to do so.

To manage these pages in list has many pros, they will have all the advantages of list items such as workflow etc. and it is easier to control, search and statistics. So, you’d better put them in list.

              Hope it can help you.
