RV versions 8 and 9 confusion RRS feed

  • Question

  •

I upgraded a web project from VS2005 to VS2008 on a new machine. The project reference was for  RV 8, which is not on the new machine. Can I install the old version of the control and keep using 8 or do I need to change the control version to 9? Also, if I use 9, do I have to install the new version on the web server?

    Any new features in 9?

V9 is nearly the same control as V8. For your project, you will need to remove the V8 then add the V9 references. There is no need to install a new web server.

The new features are more subtle. Localmode print is enabled, PDF export has better compression and a host of bug fixes.

  • I also had to manually edit the pages that used it, changing the hardcoded 8.0.0.0 to 9.0.0.0. Nothing too bad.

But I don't need to install the new DLL on the server? That's a surprise.

I also used the control for a Windows app. I guess I'll need to do the same thing the next time I release a version.

  • And of course it IS necessary to install the new DLLs in the server GAC.
