  • Our PI2 and MinnowBoard : still on 14393.67 NO UPDATE

  • I have two identical Raspberry Pi 3, one of them updated to 14915 with no problem while the other one could not. I used IOT Core Dashboard on both.

The funny thing is that on built 14393.67 the outcome was exactly the opposite. Go figure.

  • Hi Folks,

There are two tracks for update, Release and Windows Insiders.  Those devices that have Release builds will stay at 14393.XXX while those with insider builds will track to the insider releases.

  • Hi LedoDom,

Yes, the clean install version in the past has been available about a week after the update version is deployed.

  • Hi Jiong,

The fact that you are a "Windows Insider" does not ensure that the image you chose to install on your device was an insider image.  I am an "Insider" and I am running both for the following reasons:

    1. Running release builds guarantees stability and gives me the real world updates

    2. Running Insider builds gives me a vision into what is coming but does not guarantee me the stability the release build does.

I highly recommend that if you have two or more boards you do run both options as an incomplete or broken Insider Build can side track your work that likely would be unaffected in the release build.

  • Hi CAP,

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. Since you indicated that the builds on your devices are release builds, they won't be updated to 14915 insider build.

  • Yes, IoTGirl

I have MBM, RPi2 and RPi3. I'll try to run release builds and Insider builds on them.

    Thanks for your information.

  • Hi Jiong,

That is great! The Release builds will be 14393.xxx and the insider builds will start from 14393.0 and the 5 digit number will change but the extension should always be XXXXX.0 For example, the new Insider build image will display as 14915.0.

It also means, as Zeeshan states above, if your device is running 14393.67 it is a release build and will not update to 14915.  Your original screen shots show the other path, that 14393.0 from Windows Insiders will update to 14915.0.

We are still looking for 14915 ..

  • @XPLAP.CAP 14915 is insider release preview

    14393.187 is KB3189866 ...

  • Hi MSFT,

I found out why it doesn't update sometimes. There is indeed a problem with the Insider Preview 14393 FFU, it only updates to the release builds (tripple checked that!). Installing the older 14376 preview however does update, so that is the workaround.

So basically your 14393 download should be removed or replaced from the Insider Preview downloads section, because it is no better than the release build.

The whole upgrade process is nice to see/test BUT takes 100 times longer than installing an updated FFU. Can you please release new images at the same time as you release new Windows Update "flights".

As a side note, I'm looking forward to testing some of the new features promised in the new releases. I presume the providers (e.g. Lightning with GPIO buffer and timestamp) are also released in pre-release mode at NuGet about the same time as the "flights" on Windows Update? The release notes on the IoT web site only document the public image, so I have no idea where to find the contents/notes/SDK parts for the interim updates. How is that supposed to work for us devs on the insider track?

  • As from my previous ,

    Our PI2 has updated from

    10.0.14393.0 to 10.0.14393.187

and , if i have understood 10.0.14393.0 is an insider (we have got from insider)

but it has updated to release ..

(why people complicate simple things ? )

  • Yes that is exactly the symptom I observed . The 10.0.14393.x FFU (preview) or release (downloaded via dashboard) only update to release builds (currently 10.0.14393.187).

    1. Go back to the Insider Preview download link and sign-in/license agreement as usual.
    2. Choose the Raspberry Pi option from the first drop-down.
    3. On the second dropdown, choose the OLDER insider version 10.0.14376.0. Only that insider version upgrades to the current insider preview (10.0.14926.1000).

  • Hi Folks,

I can confirm that all downloaded copies of 14393 will be on the Anniversary Edition or release track.  If you download 14376 it is marked for Insider track.
