  • Question

  • Hi,

In an Exchange 2007 CCR setup where backup is done using windows NT backup, log files are not truncating after the successful backup. There are no errors in the event viewer and the backup log as well. Will eseutil helpful in this situation and if so what are the commands to use. It worked well and has stopped working suddenly.

    Regards,

    Kanishka.

  • Hi Ckanishka,

Please following the steps and see if the issue is resolved:

    1. Stop the Microsoft Exchange Information Store service. Please note that stop the MS Information store service will affect the normal use of Exchange.
    2. Backup the mdbdata and the ‘Exchange logs’ folder to a safe location.
    3. Start Microsoft Exchange and Enable Circular Logging on that storage group. About how to Enable or Disable Circular Logging for a Storage Group.

4.Exchange should automatically deletes all the committed log files as soon as a new transaction log is created. This procedure may cause a delay on some idle systems until the current Edbxx.log file of the relevant storage gets full and needs to be renamed. To speed up new log file creation and the automatic deletion process, you can send yourself an e-mail message with a 5-megabyte (MB) attachment.

    5. After doing steps above, check if log files are purge after few hours.

    6. If this works, disable circular logging again.

In addition, On April 11, 2017, Exchange Server 2007 reached end of support. It's recommend upgrade your Exchange server if you need further support.

  • Hi Lucas,

Thank you for the reply, since this is a CCR setup we can first do in the passive node and then move in to the existing active node after making it the passive node ? this will not affect the user access to email ?

    Regards,

    Kanishka.

  • Hi CKanishka,

As mentioned above, if the Microsoft Exchange Information Store service is suspended, it will affect the normal use of users, and in order to avoid any factor affecting your actual production environment, it is recommended that you set it in a state where the environment is not used.
