Install network printer on WinRT RRS feed

  • Question

  • 1. How to install print queue on WinRT using any built in core driver (XPS or Postscript or PCL6) if device supports WS-Discovery/WS-Print and XPS? Any kind of mapping needed to associate any of these core drivers to the device?

    2. Can printers be discovered using WS Discovery on WinRT?

  • Pradeep,

First, I'm assuming that by WinRT, you mean "Windows RT", which are the ARM based Windows products.

For a plug and play device (eg a WSD enabled printer), the printer needs to support a HardwareID or CompatibleID that is defined in a print class driver. You can find out more about how CompatibleIDs are defined for printers in this whitepaper. http://download.microsoft.com/download/9/C/5/9C5B2167-8017-4BAE-9FDE-D599BAC8184A/CIDPrintDev.docx

WS-discovery is certainly supported on Windows RT.

    Thanks!

  • Justin,

How to support future printers which has XPS PDL on Windows RT?. Can I map any generic XPS core driver from the system to these future devices?. What is the Compatible ID for XPS core driver?

Does Windows RT supports adding a new v4 printer driver to driver store?

    Thanks,

    Pradeep
