Few beginner questions about containers/kubernets RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have just started to learn container and technology related to that and would have questions which are not that clear to me.

    1. If you have Docker engine, can you run another container technology than docker on top of that? If im correct two biggest would be docker and CoreOS rkt?

    2. If i use Kubernets, does example docker containers run top of Kubernets (so does Kubernets act as engine) or are kubernets just tool like Puppet to manage Docker containers that are running top of Docker engine?

    3. Are there many Cloud PaaS containers services? So that you would not need to provision virtual machine, then install container engine there and then containers top of that?

    Big thanks in advance already!

Answers

  • 2. Kubernetes is just orchestrator. Nodes are still running pure docker environment, Kubernetes just orchestrates those interactions

    3. Azure specifically provides AKS (managed containers), CI (container instances) and App Service for Containers to run containers. Not sure about other cloud providers.
