Why is the autodiscover service returning different URLs when being called from different domains? RRS feed

  • Question

  • At work, we have 2 primary domains. I noticed that the domain I use to autodiscover from affects which URL I receive. If I call the autodiscover service from the same domain that is hosting our email server I get a URL that differs from the one I get from the domain that is not hosting our Exchange server.

From my understanding, the purpose of calling autodiscover is to find out which CAS is servicing your mailbox. How can it be different based on where I am?

    What am I missing?

    Thank you.

  • With domain, you mean SMTP domain of users email addresses?

Autodiscover URL is different when connecting from internal network to internal Exchange server compared to the URL when connting over Internet. This is the internal and external URL configured in Exchange.
