How To Migrate Outlook Express 6 Address Book, Inbox and Sent Mail to Outlook 2010 RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • Hello:

I have read so many conflicting and confusing reports on how to migrate Outlook Express 6 to Outlook 2010, I hope that someone on this forum can point me to an article that is clear (some articles even said to start Outlook Express on the new machine... that's bizarre!!).

    Here is my scenario:

    (1) Machine 1 is Windows XP with Outlook Express 6
    (2) Machine 2 is a new Windows 7 machine with a fresh install of Outlook 2010

The two machines are NOT networked, so I would need to use a thumb drive.

My objective is to do the following:

    (1) On Machine 2 with Outlook 2010, I will manually recreate the POP mail account used on machine 1.
    (2) I need to migrate the contacts (Name, email address, etc) from Machine 1 to Machine 2
    (3) I also need to migrate the Inbox and Sent Items that contain the emails

That's all I need to do.

You can either delete or close out this question.  I received a response which pointed me to some good articles.  Basically, the migration process uses Windows Live Mail as the "intermediate" step in moving data to Outlook.  Live Mail has the tools to import Outlook Express contacts and mail.  Then, Live Mail can export addresses and mail to a format that Outlook 2010 can import.
