creating a custom field in ms project RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

    I have a resource say A and B whose prices are 10 and 50 dollar respectively and there unit is kg.

    Now I want to create an resource C whose unit is sq meter.

    1 sq meter of C = 0.9 of A and 0.5 of B

    so now if I use say 1 unit of C my cost will be calculated as below,

    cost = 0.9 * 10 + 0.5 * 50

    So how can I create resource C in ms project?

  • Hi Piyush_0,

    The easiest way to do that is to have a macro which updates the cost of resource C based on your criteria. If you do not have that many resources the cost can be updated manually on the Resource sheet which will then be used on your assignments

  • As Paul said, since you cannot customize a formula in a custom field, you'd need to write a macro.

    Another way would be to create a cost custom field with a formula. Thus the resource C cost will always be calculated through this custom field and not in the cost field, which can be annoying since it won't be rolled up with the global project cost.

    Hope this helps,
