Alternative to Visual Studio Modeling RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • Having the models integrated with the project makes it far more likely the design artifiacts will be kept up-to-date and since it's versioned, you get relevant diagrams for your particular branch or version. Moreover, it's infinitely more convenient to have the designer integrated in your development tool.  Unfortunately, whoever decided to ensure this was only to be included in VS2010 Ultimate, also ensured that few people would be using it.  There is no real competition in the C# .NET IDE space, so we are at the mercy of Microsoft pricing. The upshot is we will simply not be able to use Visual Studio modeling because it is prohibitively expensive.
