How to read "serialized chart binary file" ? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello !

    I have some serialized chart files generated with the follow format:
    System.Windows.Forms.DataVisualization.Charting.SerializationFormat.Binary;

    How can I read only the dataPoints inside this file?
    If possible, I don't want create a new chart instance to read it.

    Thank in advance,
    Andre.

  • You can only use Chart.Serializer.Load method to load all binary data into the chart. You may consider saving into XML format, then you can create your own reader.

  • Hi Alex.

    I will use Binary because this format is faster than XML, when de/serialize.  I tested it for my case.

    As I will use Binary, can I use Load method without showing the Chart in the Form?

    Thanks for your work in this forum !

  • You still need to create an instance of the chart to load the data but you do not have to add it to the form or display it in any way.
