WM 6.1 / Skype / SE Xperia internal speaker problem RRS feed

  • Question

  • According to Skype, it is not possible to use the normal phone speaker on a SE Xperia due to a WM "problem". It either uses the loudspeaker or you need to use a corded headset - not convenient for most. There are various options to overcome this, but all require you to enable a "patch" before being able to use Skype - also not convenient, especially for an incoming call. What is being done by Microsoft to resolve what would appear to be a fairly basic error ?

  • It’s not related to WM but to the way OEMs implementing hardware and drivers. In many cases phone speaker is hard wired to the phone radio while system speaker is hard wired to the phone’s “sound card”. Only OEM can change how hardware and drivers they make operate. Also there are cell carriers who will sell these phones. They might ask for certain hardware limitations like not been able to record/play sounds from/to phone line or not been able to use phone speaker with VOIP applications.
