  • Question

  • Hi,

I think inserting the background image slices are un-aligning the <div></div> blocks, as soon as I remove the image slice the divs align...?

    Can anybody help?

  • The picture is no help. That's like asking your mechanic to tell you why your car won't start by showing him a photo of it. Web pages are the result of the interactivity of the HTML, CSS, and the browser's own default settings. And we can't examine any of that from screen shots.

Read the Forum FAQ; then post the complete page to the web so that we can look at it--in action--in situ--with all the forces working on it. Otherwise, you're asking us to go on a wild goose chase, playing a game of 20 Questions that no one wants to play. And do not post the code here; it's as useless on its own as a screen shot.

I will say, though, that "images slices" are something nobody uses any more. That is an ancient way to build a web page (and it was never a good way to do it). We haven't had anyone mention image slices in months, maybe a year.

  • Yeah, as Bill said, we can only help to resolve display/appearance issues by analyzing the CSS, HTML markup, images, etc. working together. Publish the page to a private, temporary folder on your site, and post a link here, and we'll see what we can do.

BTW, the people who provide answers here are experienced developers, and it is highly unlikely that anyone here has the introductory book on learning Expression Web that you're referring to, which is another reason why referring to chapter and page is not sufficient. Show us the actual code, in situ, and we'll go from there.

    cheers,
    scott

Please remember to "Mark as Answer" the responses that resolved your issue. It is common courtesy to recognize those who have helped you, and it also makes it easier for visitors to find the resolution later.

  • To add to what Bill and Scott said, Chris Leeds is the author of that book and I happen to know that Chris provides support for problems people are having following his tutorials. I'd suggest going to the website for that book and using the support mechanism  or other method they show for contacting Chris.

If you want help here you will need to publish the page somewhere complete with graphics, stylesheets and any other items called by the page so we can see what you did or didn't do.

  • Thanks Bill,

Sorry to have bothered your prestigious forum with my amateur attempts.

Image slices are not used anymore...says a lot for "Step by Step" then.

I would post the URL if I had a site to post it on...but I am only half-way through the book.

    Cheers

Done it now! - took a slice of the whole and then the individual parts.

Just an inexperienced deprecated method though...so I will not bother you anymore with it.

    Regards
