Using Bing Maps to Get a list of near by bus stops, malls, etc RRS feed

  • Question

  • Dear,

I want to know the near - by locations like popular malls, bus stops, stations, etc with in a range of 50 kms by detecting the location using bing maps and show the list of near by malls in a next Basic Page. Is this possible? Do I need to add any Database for storing this list of detected malls, bus stops. If so, How? Thanks in advance.

  • The information I pointed to is a REST web service that exposes the Bing Maps point of interest data as a spatial REST service. You simply make a request against the service to get the data. As a tip for using this in .NET, if you return XML and pass it into a DataSet object it will parse the feed for you. I don't believe we have a blog post on this yet. Using REST services from .NET are fairly easy. The last link I provided shows how to dynamically make requests from the map against the point of interest data source. Since you are working .NET you may find this as a good starting point: http://www.bing.com/community/Site_Blogs/b/maps/archive/2012/12/11/geocoding-and-routing-in-bing-maps-windows-store-apps-native.aspx

Also note, you will need to request access to the Bing Spatial Data Services if you do not have a Bing Maps Enterprise license. This is documented here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff701734.aspx There is no cost unless you exceed the free terms of use. This is mainly to prevent abuse of the service.
