  • If i want to using only IP address, what should i do?

That would only work for a default instance with default port 1433, but not for a named instance.

You can install up to 50 named instances on a machine; when you use only the IP address, to which of the 50 instance shoulde be connected to? So no, this is not possible.

Why don't you want to use the instance name or port?

  • We can connect using 111.321.321.1 or just using only the instance: SECRET.

As I wrote, for a default instance this is working, but not for a named instance.

You can give it a try and change the port of your named instance to 1433 to see if it works then: Configure a Server to Listen on a Specific TCP Port (SQL Server Configuration Manager)

    Hello Surbakti,

If you have a named instance as here "Ebilling", the you have to add the Name to ip address, as you did with "111.123.123.1\Ebilling", or you have to add the used ip port. If e.g. the use port is 1433, then you have to use

    111.123.123.1, 1433

as server name; there is no other way.

  • Dear Olaf Helper,

About why i don't want using instance there are no issue.

I just want to shared IP not instance. Stupid maybe, but that is the main problem.

I cannot allowed to shared the instance.

If you said that not possible,I disagree, because one of our company can do that.

We can connect using 111.321.321.1 or just using only the instance: SECRET.

so that's why i asking because i think that's possible.

I can't ask the person who setup that server because they are already gone.

    best regards,

    Surbakti
